Area horse and pony care competition 2026 - NORTH DOWN ENTRIES
Area 17 Blue Cross Horse & Pony Care will take place on Saturday 14th March at the RDA Causeway Coast Arena . The competition features teams of three members who demonstrate their knowledge and practical horsemanship skills taken from the Pony Club tests over a number of rounds. Members should wear riding clothes, including hat, gloves and boots. Click link on right to submit an application.

Training for Area Quiz & Horse and Pony Care - Block 2
Block 2 of our 7-week training programme from January to March 2026 to prepare for the Area Quiz (1st March) and the Area Horse & Pony Care Competition (14th March). There will be three sessions each week, all covering the same content (you only need to attend one). Dates for this block can be seen once you chose the date of interest. Sundays 11–12 at Lessans (note: two weeks will move to Saturday due to SJ league clashes) Mondays 4–5 at Gransha Thursdays 6–7 at Gransha Training is open to all members aged 14 and under (as of 1st Jan 2026) and is not limited to those competing, although we hope to field as many Mini and Junior teams as possible this year. The programme will cover all elements of the Horse & Pony Care and National Quiz syllabus, including working towards the theory of relevant efficiency tests, and will include achievement badges or mini badges where appropriate. All participants will also receive a copy of “How Ponies Learn”, which is part of the competition syllabus. Note entries are not open for this event.

Afternoon session will be for our members, lead rein up to 70 cms from 1.00 pm- 3.30 pm and will consist of 45 minutes each of Dressage, Show Jumping and Cross Country at Hazeldene with Craig Hills. For those who have young horses/ponies and are interested in attending we hope to have enough to run a group in the afternoon.
